Would you (or someone in your team) like to be the new LARIA Secretary?

Would you like to help LARIA by taking on the senior role of Secretary? You would be joining the senior elected officers of LARIA and help to coordinate our strategic direction. In addition the secretary provides the central point of governance and is a key person to the smooth running of the organisation. The role would be suitable for any LARIA member looking to develop their career and support LARIA.

This is an unpaid voluntary role and you will be expected to attend around four meetings each year across the UK, although this may occasionally be by telephone conference.

Skills and qualities required

  • Able to work in partnership with others, both within and outside LARIA
  • Able to represent LARIA at external meetings
  • Enthusiastic with a can-do approach
  • Be an excellent communicator, with good verbal and written skills
  • Sound organisational and administration skills, and attention to detail
  • An understanding of local area research

Duties

  • Making an active contribution to meetings as a member of LARIA Council
  • Organising LARIA Council, strategy and policy meetings and its annual general meeting
  • Liaising with the chair to plan meetings and monitoring agreed actions
  • Communicating with meeting members
  • Circulating agendas, reports and minutes
  • Arranging elections for specific LARIA posts in line with its rules
  • Responsible for the LARIA Rules and ensuring the organisation meets its duties
